Identification
- Medium sized solitary species (10-12mm)
- Summer species: July-August
- Thorax with pale hairs (lost with age)
- Both males and females with thin bands of pale hair on the abdomen
- Males generally smaller than females, with hairier faces
Habitat
Some association with woodland but also known from dry heath, grasslands and coastal sites. Has recently been collected in a number of rural horticultural gardens.

Oligolectic on Asteraceae and strongly associated with yellow flowers within this plant group: Solidago, Tanacetum, Achillea, Senecio, Centaurea, Cirsium, Hieracium, Leontodon, Hypochoeris
