Identification
- Body length: 3-6mm
- Head, thorax and abdomen black
- Flattened, rather elongated body shape
- Superficially ant-like, but flatter in shape with a longer abdomen
- The use of a microscope and specialist keys is required for identification
Habitat
Warm, dry habitats such as sand dunes, coastal cliffs and brownfield sites.
Flight period
Irish records suggest it is active from late May until late September.
Nesting biology
Precise data is lacking in Ireland. It likely parasitizes beetle or moth larvae, which it will deposit in a small crevice, typically in the ground or in a hollow plant stem.
