Species Biology
Identification
- Body length: 6.5- 8mm
- Head, thorax and abdomen black in colour
- Relatively large, square-shaped head
- Legs all black
- Easily confused with other Crossocerus and identification is generally not possible without the use of a microscope
Habitat
Not well known, but appears to have some association with deciduous woodlands.
Flight period
Univoltine, flying from June- August.
Nesting biology
Nesting occurs solitarily in dead trees and logs with the possibility of hollow plant stems also being used occasionally. One or more cells are constructed in which paralyzed flies will be deposited by the female.
