Identification

  • Medium-sized solitary species (7-10mm)
  • Head and thorax black with reddish hairs
  • Abdomen with black and yellow bands with one dark red band beside the thorax
  • Female with two red-ringed yellow spots on the thorax
  • Males smaller and slimmer than females

Habitat

Currently known from an area of dry heathland scrub. Elsewhere it inhabits a wide range of habitats similar to its host.

Univoltine flying from April-July

Nesting biology

Cleptoparasite. Breeds in the nests of Andrena cineraria
