Identification

It is black with a bronze reflection in good light. Has a pale area at tip of the abdomen where the wings overlap.  The 2nd segment of the antennae are slightly paler than the rest. 

Habitat

Found in the margins of herb-rich fields on the ground, and on low-growing herbs, particularly in association with species of forget-me-not.

Life cycle

Adults can be found throughout the year, except July. Nymphs occur in June to August. 

Similar species

The Blue Bug is a metallic blue-black all over and does not have the pale brown area where the wings overlap.

It is known only from sites in Kilkenny, Carlow and Kildare.
