Identification
Adult: 4mm to 5mm in length. Body is maroon-brown with 14 pale cream spots. The pronotum is the same maroon-brown colour but with small cream coloured 'commas' on the back edge. The legs are reddish-brown.
Larvae: have branched spines on the bumps bearing hairs.

Its distribution is holarctic, occurring in northern Europe, northern Asia and North America. It occurs across Britain but appears less common towards the north.
