- Medium sized solitary species (10-12mm)
- Summer flight period: August - September
- Abdomen of female with red markings, abdomen of male black
- Males generally smaller than females, with a cream/white face (clypeus)
Rare. Associated with calcareous grasslands.
Feeds only on - Scabiosa, Succisa, Knautia
South and Central Europe, northwards to 64ºN
