- Small solitary species (5-7mm)
- Small, black, shiny bee
- In males the mandibles are yellow/white (black in other species)
- Can be confused with all other Hylaeus species
Known from a range of habitat types.

Polylectic - Achillea, Jasione, Campanula, Melilotus, Reseda, Rubus
All of Europe, northwards to central -Finland, up to 2000m in the Alps and Caucasus
