- Yellow spots on the thorax where the wings attach
- Abdomen with black and yellow stripes. The first and second yellow stripes are broken by a distinctive wide gap
- Legs mainly orange/yellow and antennae dark
- Often has a yellow collar just below head

Known from a range of habitats but strongly associated with heathland

Cleptoparasite. Breeds in nests of Andrena fuscipes, A. denticulata
