Species Biology

Identification

Green all over with a dark area where the wings overlap at the tip of the abdomen. The last two segments of the antenae are red and black.

Habitat

Hedgrows and gardens where it feeds on a wide range of leaves.

Life cycle

Adults can be found throughout the year.  Nymphs occur from June to October.

Similar species

The Gorse Shieldbug is peppered with dark dots, whereas the Green Shieldbug is finely punctured and looks more uniformly and brighter green.

Irish distribution

Widespread, but absent from the northern most part of the island. It is currently spreading northwards.
