Species Biology

Identification

Large, green with red speckles and distincitive red-tipped points on pronotum. Scutellum is entirely green. Red area where wings cross over to fold together.

Habitat

Hedgerows and in gardens, where it can be found on lower branches of bushes and trees, especially hawthorn.

Life stages

Adults occur throughout the year, except in August. Nymps occur from May to September.

Similar species

The Birch Shieldbug is much smaller, has red on the scutellum, and lacks the red-tipped pointed shoulders of the Hawthorn Shieldbug.
