Identification

Green with very distinctive pale brown 'boomerang' shaped bars down the back.

Habitat

On stands of juniper (Juniperus communis) on lake shores and commons. Potentially also occurs in gardens and parks.

Life cycle

Adults can be found throughout the year, except in July and August. Nymphs occur from June to September.

Similar species

Similar in size and superficial colouring to Birch Shieldbug but the distinctive boomerang marks clearly stand out and prevent confusion.

Irish distribution

Very localised distribution, found in Dublin and Belfast, and at a number of sites around the north-eastern region of Lough Derg.
