Identification

Large and very smart brown shieldbug with reddish legs and prominant shoulders. The orange tipped scutellum is also distinctive.

Habitat

Generally found in woodland, especially with oak (Quercus sp.), but also found in gardens and parks with large trees.

Life cycle

Nymphs can be found throughout the year. Adults occur from July to November.

Similar species

It is similar in size and colouration to Bronze and Spiked Shieldbugs, but the former does not have reddish legs or orange tip to the scutellum, and the latter has very pointed shoulders.
